What’s on the market in the Oscar Mayer neighborhood?
Oscar Mayer Elementary School in Lincoln Park, Chicago serves Pre-K-8 and sits across from Trebes Park which has a beautiful Community Garden sponsored by the Sheffield Neighbors Association and enjoys the support of a vibrant and energetic community group.
The school was completed in 1956 and dedicated to Oscar F. Mayer (1859-1955), the founder of the Oscar Mayer & Company which was based in Chicago at the time. Mr. Mayer emigrated from Germany when he was 14, and later opened a butcher shop near the school. He loved and respected the community and worked to secure a commitment to establish this school to give something back to the community. The school was dedicated in his honor to remind those who come here of the opportunity that exists in the country to pursue ambitions for a fulfilling and successful life.
In 2008, the school was officially renamed as “Oscar Mayer Magnet School” and became a magnet-cluster school with a Fine and Performing Arts focus and introduced a Montessori program and an International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program.
We’re excited because the playground is getting a make-over!
